Who uses styrofoam anymore?

In the midst of the rebirth of environmental consciousness, in the progressive San Francisco Bay Area, MY KIDS' SCHOOLS use styrofoam plates at their family picnics.

That's about 1000 styrofoam plates that will never ever become fertilizer. Actually, make that 996 -- because I convinced 3 out of 4 kids (and myself) to take reusable plates from home. As Blue Gal says, "Be the change, baby."

I recently attended a similar picnic and noticed the same thing. Styrofoam cups for coffee. I saw two people who had brought their own mugs. I don’t drink coffee so I didn’t contribute to this waste of materials and neither did those two conscientious people.

It’s a little thing but I don’t think there are any little things. Every little thing adds to every other little thing and becomes a big thing. “Be The Change,” I totally agree

Karen---I had not realized that the plates were styrofoam!! Were these provided by Leutickans or by the PTA?

Another solution---eat at home, got to the picnic and buy and icecream.....

In our storeroom at work, we have several sleeves of styrofoam bought by the previous librarian.....what can/should we do with them?
