The Story of Stuff

Watch this video! It's in seven installments, which come up automatically when chapter one finishes. All together it takes 20 minutes, but I think it's worth it. Watch the first two chapters and then decide for yourself.

Warning: you might never go to a big box discount store again after watching it. But that would be OK, I think. ...unless it's to purchase LED Christmas lights, that is.

It's funny; I just came across (and posted about) this too! I don’t quite agree with everything she says, but she makes an awful lot of good points.

Karen, thanks for posting this. It's amazingly well done, imminently watchable and very timely, given the current "War On Christmas" being waged by Corporatists.

I hope you won't mind if I link back to this - it needs as wide a dissemination as we can manage!

Link away, CR! 'tis the season to watch this video!

I actually saw her give this talk in person a couple of years ago, and it permanently changed how I feel about fashion. No longer do I feel like a fashion-geek for wearing last year's heels; instead I'm proud to show that I'm NOT be contributing to the "golden arrow."

And, I think about those people with "x"s in their eyes when I see things being sold for nearly nothing. It definitely was an important talk for me!
